Back to DC
I'm back now,

Impromptu trip back to Dallas to visit the family, and out to a high school wedding in Colorado.

To be completely uninteresting, here are the highlights:
Dallas:
  • Eating at Hong Kong Royal no less than 3 times in 5 days. They're closing down, and it was our favorite Chinese restauraunt in Dallas.
  • Hanging out with family. Playing bridge, etc.
  • Bought a new suit for work. Almost bought an olive colored one, but was talked into sense by my dad and Amy.
  • Watched the Matrix 2 again with my Dad. Enjoyed it more
  • Rock climbing with my sisters

    Colorado:
  • Beautiful. I'm behind on getting pictures up, but I'll put them up
  • The best wedding ... ever...
  • Very laid back, un-stressful, and fun

Anyways, I'm back now. I wasn't too happy about being back at first, but it's nice to get rest and have alone time. I thought I would be at work first thing monday morning, but my internship has been delayed. I'm hoping to start tomorrow or the day after.
    Shitty Service
I just spent 3 hours trying to figure out why I can't send email from home anymore. After 3 hours of troubleshooting every part of my system, I finally figured out that my broadband service provider, RCN, no longer allows you to send mail through any other system than through theirs, thus breaking my ability to send mail through heehorse.com or through school. This doesn't change much, I'm just pissed because they never told me, and it took 3 hours of my life to figure this out.

How come service is so shitty these days? It seems like the larger the company, the shittier the service. I've seen it happen with Sprint, T-Mobile, and now RCN. It seems like the larger the company gets, the smaller the complaint/satisfaction matters for the individual consumer, especially if they have few competitors, and if you're tied into a long term contract.

On a related note, the FCC just relaxed its regulations allowing ClearChannel to take over an even bigger monopoly over our media. I'm usually for greater deregulation, but I see a disturbing trend of the balance between business and individuals being tilted in favor of business. I don't think its so much that Republicans are in office, but that business, via money, has had increasingly strong influence in politics, as they have become more savvy and more in tune with the political and money-giving process.

    Ack.

Anyways, my mail works, so I'm happier now. I'm still pissed that I just wasted my whole afternoon, though...
