Thursday, March 21st
Hmm - I haven't written a detailed update here in a while... It's partially because I've been preoccupied playing with my new toy (laptop!), and partially because I've been rethinking about what this whole weblog thing should be about, or if it needs to have a theme/vision/mission at all... Anyways, today was a pretty cool day, so I thought I'd share it with my cherished amorphous undefined readership: First of all, today was my Dad's birthday. Happy birthday daddy-O! (I'm not sure how old he is, he never really tells us - I'm sure it's somewhere between 28 and 999). After an unusally long, but rather relaxing physical therapy this morning (I got both the back massage and the "heat treatement" after the exercise stuff), I drove downtown and had lunch with Amy at this very old traditional BBQ joint... shack, actually. No, really, it's literally a shack, but it's just oozing old-school texas BBQ joint. But the food was extremely yummy - Amy tells me it's the only shack she knows that's rated 4 1/2 stars. Anyways, on our way out, we passed a couple going in carrying one of those backpacker travel guides on texas - a true sign of authenticness. Anyways, afterwards, I drove a short distance down the road to the Salvation Army headquarters. I did a bit of volunteer work for them last September after 9/11, I decided that while I'm waiting for my back to heal well enough for me to go travelling the world, that I'd make good use of my time and work for them. The timing seems to work out well, because they're in a bit of a crunch mode right now, and one of their key people (the original person I contacted) is sick in the hospital, so they're really in need. On top of that, they're information system is in dire need of cleanup and rework, so I'm going to get to play my old role of technology consultant too. Anyways, starting tomorrow, I'm going to be volunteering there full time for the next couple of weeks. It'll be good to make good use of my time again... Afterwards, I went to tutor one of dawn's student's (she tutors on the side) - who also happens to be my old violin teacher's son - in math. He's really smart, but a lazy bum (Jacob - I hope you're reading this - YOU ARE A LAZY BUM!), and I'm trying to force him to stop making careless mistakes (Jacob - I hope you're reading this - STOP MAKING CARELESS MISTAKES). Anyways, after that bit, I met dawn and my parents for some yummy birthday food. yawn - I'm tired.... (2.33 am
